Headboard needed? You might need one if the studs don't line up with the pre-drilled holes in the rail, and if there is doorway trim. The "door depth'' plus "trim depth'' must be greater than 2''. In terms of space above the doorway, a minimum of 6" from the top of your door to the ceiling (or crown molding, if any) is needed for the kit to fit correctly.

Have a thick door? Don't worry! The bolts included in the kit support a thickness range of 1 3/8" to 1 3/4", and there are solutions available for any door thickness. If you need extra spacing between the door and wall (or baseboard/doorway trim), this can be achieved by bolting a header board to the studs, and then the rail to this board.
