To set or reset your combination code, start by setting the code to the default 0-0-0-0 and pulling up the shackle. Then, rotate the shackle 180° and push it to the bottom. Keeping the shackle down, scroll the numbers to set your own code, pull up the shackle, and rotate it back. Be sure to remember the code you've set, and consider taking a picture for reference.

You can easily check if the lock is defective by testing it with the default code straight out of the packaging. If you can lock and unlock it at 0-0-0-0, then you have a good lock. Additionally, you can apply some oil in between the dials after using the lock for a period of time to keep it working smoothly.
